Pond Safari, North Coast
Pond Safari, North Coast: SAKKS, Natal Chapter.
We were honoured to host about 40 members of the Natal Chapter here on the North coast of KwaZulu-Natal. It was also encouraging to see so many hobbyists and committee members driving all the way from Durban and Pietermaritzburg to enjoy a day out with members and fellow Koi-lovers. Thanks to all those that attended, especially Mike Harvey that that came all the way from Balito, despite not feeling well.
Early morning there was a strong drizzle in Mtunzini and Brett and Sheryl had to do some crisis management before everyone arrive, but just before the main body of members arrived, the rain stopped and it turned out to be a wonderful day.
Mike Harvey discussed fish that were bowled at Brett and Sheryl’s pond. When one considers the reaction, the highlight at this pond was the exceptional Kumonruy that we bowled at Bretts pond. After a hearty “light” breakfast and some lucky draws, everyone departed for Paul and Yvonne’s pond in Richards Bay.
It was Harry Becx’s turn to discuss fish that were bowled. A lengthy discussion took place around “Panda”, Paul and Yvonne’s huge Matsukawabake. Then everyone congregated in the impressive Lapa to enjoy cold drinks, beer and biltong. After more lucky draws, the convoy left for Empangeni to visit Pieter and Alma’s pond.
It was again Harry Becx ‘s turn to discuss various fish bowled here. The visitors then moved around the property to view the other ponds where more fish were bowled for closer scrutiny by individuals. After acknowledgements by Chapter Chairman Vaughn Lawrence and more lucky draws, it was time for the main draw. The prize was a 46 cm Dainichi Showa sponsored by Koi4u.
The lucky winner: Wayne Varden.
It was a memorable day made possible by all those that attended and of course Sheryl Southgate, Yvonne Van Duyker and Alma Odendaal. Thank you ladies!
